There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens…
Ecclesiastes 3:1
How about a new twist on an old familiar game? Hand a kid a chore chart and they most likely sigh … but hand a kid a game and they just might get excited!
Why not use this time of quarantine to develop some good habits? Solomon may not have been thinking about a nationwide timeout when he penned Ecclesiastes 3, but we moms can certainly make this season work for cultivating some good habits for our children (and ourselves)!
Here are some ideas for using our Stay-At-Home BINGO:
- Print a copy of the BINGO card for each child
- Review/highlight each square and what your expectation is for it to be met.
- For the “Write the Word” square, consider downloading the free A Reason For Handwriting sheets offered on our sponsor’s website
- Make it one-time, daily, weekly, or whatever works for your family.
- Consider rewards:
- Individual
- First to Bingo
- Double Bingo (two directions)
- Fill-the-whole card this week
- Everyone in the family achieves a BINGO
No legalism here, moms! You are the queen of your home so you get to decide the rules!
And just in case you have your own activities (maybe you have cows to milk, eggs to collect, weeds to pull, dogs to be fed, equations to derive, or whatever…) we are adding a blank version so you can tailor-make bingo to your family and your individual child. Our version is for younger children, so feel free to change out the activities for older children – or challenge them to make their own!
We know this season of being house-bound is growing tiresome at best, so we hope this little game might make today both fun and productive. We hope you enjoy this activity … and invite you to post a pic of your kiddos completing their BINGO cards on our Facebook page! On Instagram, you can use #areasonforhomeschool or tag @a_reason_for_homeschool.
One final note: Your family’s BINGO cards might be another fun addition to the Time Capsule from our April 16th blog post!
