Even in an era when screens and electronic devices are prevalent, writing legibly and reading the handwriting of others remains a fundamental life skill. A Reason For Handwriting® can help your children achieve this, while equipping them with essential knowledge of God’s Word.
A Reason For Handwriting® provides instruction in correct letter formation, and consistent daily practice to help students learn to write with ease. The exclusive Border Sheets, which your child completes at the end of each lesson, are suitable for display, ministry outreach, and gift-giving, providing an incentive for students to use their best penmanship.
The 1st-6th grade curriculum provides daily practice in Manuscript (Levels A, B & T) or Cursive (Levels T, C, D, E & F). Every lesson features a weekly Scripture verse—over the course of 6 years, your child will practice writing more than 200 different ones!—and because research shows that writing information by hand greatly increases retention, this daily handwriting practice also serves as an excellent Scripture memorization tool. In fact, there is a growing body of scientific research that demonstrates the many benefits of handwriting … we encourage you to check out this post on the topic if you have doubts about including penmanship instruction in your home education plan.

Research shows that hands-on learning is the best path to comprehension and retention. A Reason For Science® employs an inquiry-based model, using age-appropriate weekly experiments to engage students and introduce fundamental concepts in Life, Earth and Physical sciences. Levels A-H correspond with 1st– 8th grades, with a full year of instruction (36 weekly lessons) in each level. Every lesson includes a Scripture tie-in that correlates with the week’s scientific concept, integrating faith with learning and helping students apply a biblical worldview to newly-acquired information.
Lesson structure reflects the Scientific Method, preparing students for advanced courses in high school and beyond.
The Teacher Guidebook gives detailed instructions for each stage of the lesson. You’ll find prompts to facilitate discussion, suggestions for extended learning, reproducible masters for weekly quizzes to evaluate the student’s grasp and retention of the subject matter, and more.
The convenient Materials Kit for each level contains essential supplies to perform all 36 weeks of experiments (some readily-available household and/or perishable items are not included) in a compact, durable storage case. As any homeschool parent can tell you, we start out with the best intentions … but it can be impossible to carry through when you’re wandering the aisles of your local grocery store at 10 p.m., looking for iron shavings and a rare earth magnet for this week’s science experiment. We’ve been there before, which is why we LOVE the convenience of this all-in-one kit.

A Reason For Spelling® combines scientific advances in learning with the strengths of traditional spelling programs. This 1st-6th grade curriculum teaches high-frequency base words plus hundreds of other word forms by integrating reading, writing, and language arts, and drawing upon the latest knowledge of how children learn to spell.
Moms tell us their kids enjoy Spelling more than ever before, because it seems like play instead of school. (Our own kids have said the same thing.) While it’s true that the activities are designed to be fun and stimulating, don’t be fooled—there is serious science at work in these lessons!
Each week begins with a read-aloud story (found in the Teacher Guidebook) that highlights a Scripture-based value. The memory verse for every story corresponds with the weekly verse in the same level of A Reason For Handwriting®. Together, the two subjects reinforce biblical principles and demonstrate that Scripture is relevant to real-life situations—an important foundation for a lasting biblical worldview.
On Day 1, a simple pre-test evaluates proficiency in spelling a list of words. Over the next few days, students use a variety of fun, multi-sensory activities (designed to stimulate learning and build multiple word associations) to practice the word list. A post-test on the final day provides an opportunity to demonstrate improved spelling and mastery of concepts.
Teacher Guidebooks contains a wealth of information including teaching insights, story discussion prompts, extra Challenge words for strong spellers, and much more. Every lesson plan has suggested activities providing true differentiated instruction for auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners.

A Reason For Guided Reading® is unlike any other reading program on the market. Other publishers offer various instructional methods, created with a secular focus. A Reason For has instead applied the pioneering work of Fountas, Pinnell, Cunningham and others, to create a leveled reader program with biblical stories and values.
That’s right! This is a proven, academically-sound method to teach reading, while instilling Scripture values in young readers.
Research shows that beginning readers quickly become frustrated when they struggle with books above their level of proficiency. As a result, they often develop negative attitudes and habits. A Reason For Guided Reading® is designed to prevent this. Emergent-level readers feature simple word structure, short sentences, and repetition. Bold, colorful illustrations directly reflect the content of each page. As the student’s skills become stronger, Transitional and Fluent level readers use increasingly complex vocabulary, stories, and illustrations.
With a total of 95 books in the complete A Reason For Guided Reading® program, students have many opportunities to grow in confidence and proficiency—and with each milestone, their knowledge of Scripture increases, as well.
There’s a detailed lesson plan for each of the 95 leveled readers … so you’ll have everything your child needs to develop strong reading skills.
Education is not only teaching skills, it’s also building a biblical worldview. What could be a better start, than immersing your children in God’s Word from the very first books they learn to read? Visit the A Reason For store to learn more about this unique program.
