Write The Word: WORK (with Free Downloads)

Write The Word
Write The Word Work scripture Bible journaling

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden
to work it and take care of it.
Genesis 2:15

Many of us think of work as a proverbial “four-letter word.” It conjures up images of sweat, fatigue, and all sorts of unpleasantness. Spiritually speaking, we may even think of it as a consequence of the fall of man.

But a careful reading of Scripture shows the first appearance of sin in Genesis 3, while work was ordained for us in chapter 2. After the fall, it became difficult and disagreeable with all those “thorns and thistles,” but our labor itself is innately good. It is satisfying. It brings a sense of achievement.

This month, as we study and write verses about work, would you consider asking God to give you a fresh view of this responsibility and its purpose in our lives?

Choosing to embrace a strong work ethic can transform our physical space around us, but also our attitude and mindset on the inside. We become good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. The result is peace and joy in our day-to-day.

Perhaps most of all, a solid work ethic honors God – the one who gave us the work to do, and the One we honor and worship with our labor.

While we design our Write the Word bookmarks for moms, you might also share them with your children. During the summer months, they may be taking a break from their regular penmanship practice. Might I suggest the Border Sheets from our sponsor, A Reason For, as a resource to maintain those fine motor skills and keep the Word in their hearts and minds. (See our Resources page for free downloads.) Border Sheets include pre-printed lines and designs for coloring. After writing the scripture verse and coloring the border, the completed project can be shared as a missions/ministry gift – perhaps mailed to missionaries, shared with a Sunday School teacher, delivered to a coach or piano teacher, taken to the nursing home or a widowed neighbor. For older children, provide a journal and challenge them to write the Word, as well.

And, of course, each week in June the Sunday Soaking devotional will focus on one of the “work” verses we are writing together.

Praying we are all inspired by God’s Word to lean into the work He has assigned to us! To Him be the glory!
