Mr. Webster defines learn this way:
to gain knowledge or understanding of or skill in by study, instruction, or experience.
I love the word learn.
It suggests movement from where we are to a place of knowing more. Life is our classroom and our teachers are books, people, and our own experiences. It applies to cooking and computer skills, home and hobbies, sports and scrapbooking.
But it applies to our Christian walk, as well.
The moment we acknowledge our sinful nature and ask for His gift of salvation, we have the presence of the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us. We begin a life-long journey with Him that adds color to our gray world. We have a purpose that transcends the here and now.
If our salvation is a snapshot in time, our sanctification is a video that will not end until we reach heaven.
If our SALVATION is a snapshot in time, our SANCTIFICATION is a video that will not end until we reach heaven. Click To TweetThe Christian life is not about getting it right every time, but about owning it when we get it wrong and cycling back to make it right. It’s what you do next that counts in the Christian life. It’s about love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness (rather than rules, legalism, and perfection).
The word learn certainly carries meaning for academics and homeschooling, but I also hope that as we read and write the Word this month, we see spiritual application, as well. I pray we will be spurred on in our walk with Jesus and be challenged to consider the areas where we are holding back in growing through study, instruction, or experience.
What is God teaching you these days? Are you listening and obeying? Are you ready to learn – to follow where He leads in this journey called life?
Several years ago, I was blessed to sit under the teaching of Dr. David Burnham of Burnham Ministries, and I love these wise words from him:
“The Christian life is not always the easiest life,
but it is by far the best life!”
Can I get an amen?
