Rejoice always, pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Today is the first Friday in November, and the day the National Alliance of Christian Home Education Leadership has chosen as the annual National Homeschool Day of Prayer.
We here at A Reason For Homeschool count it a privilege to unite our hearts and minds with fellow followers of Christ all over the country, in support of home education. Whether you’re a parent currently in the trenches of your family’s homeschooling journey, a grandparent whose heart rejoices to see the next generation raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, or simply someone who supports the right of parents to direct the training and education of their own children, we hope you will join with us!
You can learn more by visiting the Homeschool Freedom website. You can also visit the Facebook event page and click “GOING” to receive hourly prayer prompt notifications throughout the day.
The Homeschool Freedom website highlights seven specific areas for our prayer focus:
- Give thanks for the freedom we have to homeschool our children,
- Pray for homeschooling families in your own nation and around the globe,
- Pray for upcoming elections and the impact they may have on homeschooling,
- Pray for your state’s homeschool organization and its leaders,
- Pray for your elected officials to recognize that the education of children is the responsibility of the parents, not that of the nation,
- Pray for your own family—your homeschooling journey and the Lord’s guidance as you take that journey, your relationships with one another, your own children and their futures, as well as seeking ways your family can minister to others,
- Rejoice in God’s mercy and His faithfulness in all things.
To help facilitate our prayers in these seven crucial areas, we’ve created a handy download that will allow you to pray—not just today, but every day: our Prayer Points for the National Homeschool Day of Prayer (and Beyond) . Because there are seven points of prayer, I encourage you to drill down on one specific area each day of the week. For each of the seven prompts, I’ve selected a specific Bible passage. As those of you who read our blog regularly already know, I believe praying God’s Word back to Him is one of the most effective ways we can pray.
Please also check out this video on YouTube, highlighting these seven specific prayer points for today:
We would love for you to let us know which of these prayer burdens you are carrying. Let us know what you are praying! Let’s spur one another on to pray without ceasing, knowing that when we pray God not only changes our circumstances, but He also changes us!

In addition, we would like to invite every one of you—and any of your friends and family—to join the all-new, private A Reason For Prayer Facebook group. We’ve launched this group with the intention of sharing prayer requests and praise, asking for advice, celebrating, commiserating, and just supporting one another in love through the peaks and valleys of home education. All advocates of homeschooling are invited to join: current, former and future homeschooling families, grandparents, and those who simply believe in the benefits of teaching children at home.
